Recycling
Recycling is one of the easiest, and most apparent, of many sustainable acts in our campus community. From paper to plastics to aluminum, we all handle many recyclable products every day. It only takes one second to decide to recycle these items as opposed to placing them in a container destined for the landfill. As part of our common, Christian commitment to care for God's creation, we hope that you will choose to recycle every time you deal with recyclable materials. Read on for information about what can be recycled, where to recycle, and some information about the value of recycling for our community and the broader environment.
What May We Recycle?
We may recycle any of these materials in any recycling container or dumpster across campus:
- White paper
- Cardboard
- Colored paper of all weights and types
- Empty aluminum cans and other aluminum items
- Empty plastic bottles and other plastics graded #1-#7
We cannot recycle styrofoam (including "to go" boxes and cups). Please make sure that all plastic bottles and cans are empty, and that plastics, papers, and cardboard are not coated with food. Pizza boxes can be recycled as long as they only have some oils and not coated with sauce and cheese.
In an effort to expand our recycling efforts, the university now offers glass recycling in select locations.
Toner Cartridge Recycling
The Baylor Toner Recycling Program is part of the university’s ongoing efforts towards its mission for sustainability. Through Baylor’s association with Staples Advantage, all departments are able to recycle used toner cartridges at campus drop-off locations. Cartridges are picked up weekly on Mondays by Staples Advantage delivery personnel. Toner recycling bins are located in the following buildings:
• Clifton Robinson Tower (back lobby)
• Moody Library (back dock)
• Highers Athletic Complex- Simpson Athletics & Academics Center (SAAC 241)
• Carroll Library (third floor across from the elevator)
• Bill Daniel Student Center (SUB mail room)
• Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative
• Castellaw Communications Center
• Baylor Science Building*
*Requires key card access, so only available for Baylor Science Building employees.
If you have any questions, comments, concerns or to report that a bin is full, please email procurement_services@baylor.edu or call ext. 1561.
