See More News“Bear-ly Used” is a campuswide initiative to divert donatable items from landfills and redistribute them towards community partners and families in need.
On April 24, people from across campus and Waco gathered for the second annual celebration of the Baylor Community Garden (BCG) as a nucleus for learning across disciplines, cultivating care for the living world through art and cultural events, and relieving hunger on campus and in the community. Normally held at the BCG itself, rain moved the party inside this year, but the garden was refreshed and everyone enjoyed a wonderful evening reflecting on a year in which students, faculty, and community organizations have come together to seek flourishing for all.
From lightly-worn furniture to unused appliances, move-out week sees dumpsters overflowing with all sorts of nearly-new items. As the end of the semester approaches, a pair of business students have found a way to keep those goods out of the garbage and into the hands of the people who need them.
Baylor sustainability efforts are a part of the university’s strategic plan and hopes to integrate Christian stewardship of the planet into its green initiatives. Notable green initiatives recently have included composting 270,000 pounds of food waste from the dining halls and achieving Tree Campus USA certification.
