  • Sustainability Specialist for Operations and Engagement

Dr. Sarah Guberman VerPloeg is a dedicated Environmental Scientist with extensive experience in community engagement and sustainability education. She holds a B.S. in Environmental Science with a Minor in Biology (2016) and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science (2023), both from Baylor University. Her dissertation research led her to recognize the critical role of informal learning spaces in bridging academic and public sectors, which ignited her passion for environmental education, science communication, and outreach.

Among her notable achievements, Dr. VerPloeg helped establish the Waco Green Champions program during her internship with the City of Waco Sustainability Office and played a key role in revitalizing the Waco Green Business Alliance certification as the Director of Sustainability and Education at Keep Waco Beautiful.

A firm believer in sustainability as a journey of progress rather than perfection, Dr. VerPloeg advocates for widespread participation in sustainable practices. As a proud double Baylor alumna, she is excited to return to Baylor and contribute to the university that has played such an important role in her professional and personal growth.
